A friend of mine has just started yoga classes and asked me about my first yoga experience, as she found it pretty hard. I’ve been practicing yoga for four years now and absolutely love it, but in the beginning this certainly wasn’t the case!
I had a relatively good fitness level when I first started, but my muscles were so tightly wound that my first class was agony – almost every move hurt!

I was reckless and overconfident and really over stretched myself in that class, I was hobbling around for days after, begging for a stairlift to take me the few steps up to my office at work!
But I stuck with it, slowed down to a reasonable pace and saw myself ease up and really reap the benefits of it over time.
So if you’re starting yoga as a beginner, don’t overdo it – go at your own pace, push yourself to your own limits (not past them!) and soon enough you’ll really feel a difference.
